Before becoming a qualified coach my career was in Human Resources and Organisational
Development (HR&OD), with over 30 years senior level experience in private and public sectors.
My HR career was incredibly rewarding and taught me so much about employment, work and careers that I am now able to bring in to my coaching practice.
As an HR professional I learned how to develop a great people strategy, how to attract and retain talent, how to assess candidate capability and suitability, how to spot people's potential and develop it, how to manage performance and create meaningful career paths, how to manage change and restructures and still take people with you and how to create a positive and engaging workplace culture where people thrive.
I initially trained and started coaching and mentoring people as part of my HR role and soon realised that this was becoming the most rewarding part of my job where I could really help my work colleagues to recognise and address the challenges they were experiencing at work.
After taking redundancy I decided to bite the bullet, follow my passion and undertake further training to become a professional coach so that I could help individuals navigate their careers and make the most of their talent and potential in their working lives.
I have built up many years of successful workplace and career coaching experience, helping individuals at all stages of their career from those starting out as trainee, apprentice or graduate through to those developing in supervisory or leadership roles to those seeking a career change or coping with unemployment and job loss.
I also volunteer as a career and interview coach for a national women's charity where I help unemployed women regain their confidence and self worth by helping them apply for jobs and succeed at a job interviews.
My coaching approach is founded on my belief that everyone has potential, even if they don't realise it themselves.
I believe that when individuals are in the type of work or employment that suits them best this can be the making of them.
I know that work can bring reward that goes way beyond the salary slip and I love helping my clients find success and purpose through the work they do.
I recognise that careers have their ups and downs so I know how to help people tap into their inner resilience and capability to enable them to adapt and develop in their working lives.
My coaching is one to one and 100% focused on the client and the specific career challenges they are facing at whatever stage they are at in their working life.
What is it like to be coached?
Think of it as having a professional and trusted partner to talk through the career and work issues that matter most to you. Think what it would be like to have some objective and impartial input to help you face up to the challenges, unravel your thinking, explore options, act as a sounding board and help you find solutions and take action. Imagine how much more motivated you would be if that person followed up with you and checked on your progress , encouraging and challenging you to keep going. Someone who genuinely wanted you to be successful and was committed to helping you achieve your goals.
That is what my coaching feels like. It's supportive, motivating and purposeful.
And it's all about you.
In short coaching is a journey in partnership with me to help you achieve your potential at work.
